Cognitive functions in people with mental disorders: focus on self-reflection, insight and mindwandering

Introduction People with mental disorders may present impairments in cognitive and metacognitive functions. Self-reflection is the ability to reflect on oneself (specifically one’s behavior, emotions, thoughts) insight awareness of internal experience. Mindwandering (MW) defined as tendency divert attention from current reality without a clearly intention. It can be spontaneous or deliberate. Several studies have investigated these alterations patients schizophrenia (SZ), while less known for people substance use disorder (SUD). Objectives The aim study was explore self-reflection, MW group SZ SUD. Methods Insight Scale (SRIS) (MW-S) deliberate (MW-D) mindwandering scales were administered 25 SZ, 21 SUD, healthy controls (HC). Linear regressions performed evaluate associations between variables under study. Results Preliminary data showed that SUD presented lower SRIS values than HC. Examining detail, participants reported higher scores at MW-D, MW-D MW-S scores. revealed negatively associated self-reflection SUD; moreover, SZ. Conclusions Our preliminary results confirm importance acting elements metacognition improve general outcome disease. A comprehensive therapeutic approach should include psychotherapeutic social interventions aimed increasing introspection. Disclosure Interest None Declared
